Bobbis Pole Studio Amateur Night July 2012

Image
I love Amateur night!! It's always so much fun, but usually I don't get to watch much of it because I'm running around like an idiot getting myself or Chilli organised. Last night though, because all of the performers were at the end of the night (after the actual competitors) I got to see about 90% of the girls strut their stuff!

Last night things were run a little differently than usual, instead of all the girls from Beginners to Advanced competing against each other for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place it was broken down into 3 Sections Beginners and Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Intermediate 3 then Prep Advanced and Advanced, with one winner for each section. I think this was part of the reason so many girls (I think there were about a total of 19) entered, because lets face it, what Intermediate 1 Studen wants to compete against an Advanced Student?

All the shows I saw were beyond fantastic, everyone put so much effort into their routines, themes, costumes and hair and ma…

July 9 - 16 Bringing Sexy Back with United Pole Artists

Image
Move over Justin Timberlake because Pole Dancers all over the world are bringing sexy back like it's never been brought before!!

Since United Pole Artists announced last week that they were declaring 9-16 July "Bringing Sexy back week" my Facebook feed has been flooded with the poster of Alethea Austin, along with girls (and guys) declaring to get their sexy on! AND I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER!!
I'm all about the sexy side of pole dancing, and I honestly don't understand how anyone can pole dance without unleashing some kind of sexy. I don't get the whole pole fitness thing where you just do trick after trick after trick, to be honest, when watching videos like that on YouTube or even live performances like that I tend to zone out. There is really only so many times that I can watch the same tricks done over and over again by different people before it all becomes mush in my head (that also may have something to do with my very short attention span and the fact…

Personal Trainers are evil sadistic bastards!

Image
As part of my training for MPD I not only train on the pole, I also try to make it to the gym at least twice a week (only twice because I'm at the studio for class or training 4 days a week). And because I do tend to wander around the gym looking at the equipment more so than using it I decided to hire a Personal Trainer to help me.

The first trainer I had a few months ago decided to go back to his old job which I was a bit bummed about, he however passed on my details to one of the other trainers there that he told me, in his opinion, was the best. Starting with a new PT is a little bit of a pain as you have to go through that whole "I need to test what you can do" process again, which can either leave you in so much pain the next day you can barely hold a pen let alone dress yourself, or you don't get a work out as hard as what you usually do.

My current PT, loves Kettlebells, (I love them too, until I have to use them. Then I would like to throw a 24kg Kettlebell…

Remember when I told you about Erotic Aerobics?

Well if you wanna see what goes on in Chilli's Erotic Aerobics class check out this video!

I whip my hair back and forth

Image
This week was a pretty exciting week for me, as part of my routine for MPD I wanted to have really long hair, and because it would be impossible for me to grow my hair to the length that I want it to be by the heats I decided ages ago that I would get hair extensions!!

I have pretty long hair already, so I decided to get 22 inch ones, which is pretty bloody long. I was a bit worried that it was going to be to long and I'd end up choking myself when I was on the pole, but figured it was better to get them long and be able to trim them up if needed than get 18 inch ones put in and find out they were to short.

Anyway, after the consult on Saturday morning to match my hair colour it was like time stopped and I had to wait forever till Thursday night to get them put in! Like a child I counted down the sleeps till my appointment. I also had the added excitement of doing a fair bit of online shopping during the week which did not help cause I ended up over excited and bouncing off the wall…

BATWING!!!!!!!!!!!

Image
Everyone has a favourite pole move, and right now the Batwing is mine. This move was created by the amazing Alethea Austin and is a pretty advanced and painful move so be careful before you decide to give it a go.
I was lucky enough to learn how to do the Batwing from Alethea herself last year in one of her workshops when she was in Australia for MPD, I got it the first time I tried it however it didn't look any where as good as Aletheas and it hurt like hell. Where did it hurt? Well before I tried it Alethea did warn that it killed her back every time she'd done it because the pole is across her back. I was lucky, my back was fine (I think it's because I have a bigger layer of fat there to protect my spine than she does), but my poor left forearm took a beating! For months and months and months of practising it I would end up with a huge bruise on my arm and depending on how many times I put myself through it I would get a lump underneath the bruise.

Winter, the Flu and MPD.

Image
It's officially winter, but honestly it feels like it's been Winter around here for ages. Usually I enjoy this time of year, I love rugging up even though getting out of bed in the morning seems to be the hardest thing on the planet to do.

However, right now, I have no love for winter. I'm on my second consecutive day at home in bed (with the occasional trip to the lounge room for a change of scenery) after been struck down with the flu. I also spent Monday, I went to work on Tuesday but woke up even worse on Wednesday. Being a viral flu the doctor told me there is nothing much I can do but stay in bed, rest my body, drink lots of hot fluids and have three - four hot showers a day. I'm also lucky enough for this to be affecting my sinus and ears which is such a delight. I love having blocked ears and waking up every morning with my eyes glued shut.

On the plus side, I'm starting to feel better now, just have to shake this cough and get rid of that annoying ringing …

Long weekend Freestyling

Image
Freestyling or Free Dancing, basically chucking some music on and seeing where it takes you.

To be honest, I totally suck at it, I always feel like a bit of a deer in headlights and always end up forgetting every single move I've ever learnt and then end up doing body roll after body roll after body roll.

So this morning, in an attempt to get better at it, I decided that I would try and freestyle once a week, video it and upload it on to YouTube for the world to see.

This afternoon, despite being sick with the flu, sinus and an ear ache (why I even went to the studio is beyond me), I picked a song that came on my iPod on the drive into the studio. Being a bit of a wet miserable day in the city, the mood of the song seemed to fit.

Videoing is also a good way to find out things that you need to work on. However, right now, I can't bring myself to watch it.  I will eventually.

(Sorry it's been so long since I've posted, been so busy with work and training that I haven…

Well that was a waste of shaving cream

Image
Okay, maybe I'm being a little bit dramatic, it wasn't a total waste of shaving cream but to be honest I don't feel like I accomplished anything yesterday at all.

Crappy training sessions are the worst, especially when you turn up to train with a head full of ideas and a list of things that you need to work on, and NOTHING works.

On Thursday I realised that it's only THREE MONTHS until the heats of Miss Pole Dance and I started to freak out a little, 3 months sounds like a long time, but when you can only train one day a week 3 months is not a long time at all. It really is time to get serious, so yesterday I drove to Bobbis Miranda studio because I couldn't make it to the city studio today (Sunday) for practice time.

I was pretty excited to go to the Miranda Studio, I've only ever been there once before and I love the fact that not many people there know me so I can just do my own thing and not have to worry about getting distracted. I went with a mental list …

Pole Kisses aka Bruises, how to get rid of them quickly.

Image
When it comes to Pole Dancing, bruises are a guarantee. From your first spin on the pole there's a good chance you'll wake up the next morning with one.

Bruises are fantastic! If you're like me you show off your bruises with pride to anyone and everyone with a full length story of the move responsible for it! And occasionally when you're getting dressed in the morning you'll discover a new bruise in a totally random place which will leave you wondering what the hell it was that caused it, which is usually discovered the next time you're doing the move and hit the bruised spot.
But sometimes they can be a major pain in the butt, especially when you want to keep on working on the move or combo that bruised you in the first place and you can't because it hurts to much! Or if you want to wear a nice short dress out but your legs are covered in purple and brown spots. But never fear, there are things out there to heal your bruises faster.

Did someone say Miss Pole Dance Australia??

Image
Since the first time I went to a Miss Pole Dance Australia Final, I've dreamt of entering, and this year, I'm finally doing it, and to be honest it excites and terrify's me all at the same time.

I'm no novice when it comes to Pole Comps, I've entered my fair share, I think once Michelle Shimmy, when introducing me before I went on stage, describe me as a bit of a pole comp tart.. She's right, if theres a comp on and I can get there I'll do it.

But Miss Pole Dance Australia, for me, is on a whole different level. Competing against girls who a majority of are professional pole dancers, they're teachers and paid professionals, and I find this daunting. At the end of the day I'm just a student, I do 5 pole classes a week and train for a few hours on a Sunday. I guess I feel like a bit of an underdog, and that's fine with me.

When I decided last year that I was going to enter the NSW heat, I started planning straight away, because as I have a full …

"The Bobbi"

Image
Originally I was just going to share a link to an interview with Bobbi that I came across on Facebook, but decided that not only would I do that, but it would be a perfect opportunity for me to gush about one of my favourite pole dancers. So bear with me. this could go on for a while.

I remember the first time I ever saw Bobbi, I was in the lift at the the old studio, when the doors opened on level four there she was, I was with a friend of mine at the time, and after I picked my jaw from the floor I elbowed her in the ribs (possibly quite hard) and as we got out I turned to her, completely star struck and said, OMG did you see her? THAT WAS BOBBI!! It was like I'd seen a celebrity I was that excited!

Before I go any further I should explain, when this happened I was in Intermediate One, and didn't spend quite as much time at the studio as I do now. I knew there was a Bobbi, I'd seen photos, I think I may have even had a DVD by this stage, but I'd never seen her in the…

Tap Dancing Elephants

Image
Saturday April 28th was the final for the Pole Candy Semi Pro Championship 2012, and can I tell you up until Friday night I was doing pretty fine nerves wise, then a heard of tap dancing elephants took up residence in my stomach.

On Saturday my morning started by forcing myself to eat a small bowl of cereal (those damn elephants take up a lot of room) then headed to a cupcake decorating class with my mum, her early mothers day present, it was heaps of fun we learnt how to pipe icing properly, how to use fondant, and most importantly it took my mind off my nerves for about 2 and a half hours :).
After that was over we headed to Westfield's for some final Pole Candy shopping, lipstick, eyelashes and shaving cream etc, we were also both covered in corn flour which was highly attractive. This is when my nerves hit in full force, I tried to eat some lunch, yep that wasn't happening, and then there was the random groaning and grabbing of my stomach while my poor mother kept asking w…

Pole Physics - 1 week in

Image
So last week in class I noticed that some skin on my shin was starting to peel off, I decided then it was time to start moisturising again seeing as though it had been about four and a half years since moisturiser had touched my legs (or any part of my body to be honest).

My skin is naturally quite soft (I guess that's the best way to describe it) so not moisturising for me hadn't been a big deal because to touch my legs you wouldn't have noticed that I didn't.

Any way I'd ordered a bottle of Pole Physics early in the year, used it once or twice then forgotten about it. So this time, to make sure I didn't forget to use it each night I set an alarm on my phone to remind me to do it before I go to bed.

The alarm has worked and I've been applying Pole Physics to my legs each night before I go to bed.

What do I think?

Well I love the stuff!! My legs feel great, I'm not slipping off the pole at all, to be honest, I'm using less grip aids (shaving cream/…
