Burning Calories... like a BOSS!

Image
So last week I bought another watch with a calorie counter (this is the third one). This one was a bit different, it came with a heart rate monitor that you wear on a strap. I gave it a whirl tonight to see if it would be any better than the last one I bought (which tried to tell me that I burnt 2 calories in an advanced class... yeah right).

So I wore the heart rate monitor strap thing (I know what you're thinking, I'm so up with the technological terms) under my crop top, I didn't really notice it to much apart from a couple of times in warm up when we were on our stomachs.

I honestly didn't think that I would burn to many calories, because of the stop start nature of the class the watch beeped at me a few times to tell me that I wasn't "In the Zone" i.e.. my heart rate had slowed down to much, however I was pleasantly surprised with the results.

The watch I bought is a Polar FT4, I got it off Ebay for about $80 (possibly a bit more I can't really r…

Pole Physics

Image
Into my 4th hour of pole yesterday (after 3 hours on Sunday and Pole Candy on Saturday night) my poor skin seems to have had enough. I noticed halfway into class that the skin on my right shin was starting to peel off :( and OMG did it sting!!!
I ordered some Pole Physics a while ago and have used it once since it arrived, but since I haven't moisturised in about four and a half years it's been hard to get back into the habit. After Monday I think it's about time I did.
So here goes nothing, I hope I still manage to stick to the pole tomorrow night and I'll see how I go after a week of using it (I'm probably going to have to set a reminder on my phone to make sure I use it every night).
Wish me luck

Osteopaths, a pole dancers best friend.

Before I started pole dancing I'd never even heard of Osteopathy, so when someone mentioned it in class one day I was totally confused and not wanting to feel stupid I didn't ask but went home and did the ever informative google search.

So what is Osteopathy? Osteopathy is a form of drug-free non-invasive manual medicine that focuses on total body health by treating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework, which includes the joints, muscles and spine. Its aim is to positively affect the body's nervous, circulatory and lymphatic systems. (<-- Click this link for more info)
I've been having Osteo treatments on a regular basis for over 2.5 years now, I'm there at least once a month to get my shoulder checked out and my spine cracked, and as long as I pole, I'll be getting monthly "tune ups" as I like to call them.

We put our bodies through so much trying to get all these gravity defying moves, putting strain not just on our shoulders but our b…

A good read

If you're interested in losing weight and pole dancing, check out this blog by my friend Pole Dancing Obsession - Losing weight with pole.
I'm still on my weight loss journey at the moment. I've decided to set myself a challenge to lose 8kgs in the next 9 weeks. It's time to get serious. To keep me honest I'll post up my progress every week.. which i'm hoping will deter me from slipping up and eating something I shouldn't be...
Now I have to go and make some cupcakes...

Pole Candy Semi Pro 2012

Image
The 2012 Pole Candy Semi Pro Championship final is next Saturday! and for me, this weekend is full of final preparations!! So far today I've finished adding some sparkles to my costume that I had made by the fabulous Georgia at Georgia Moon and painted to coats of paint on to my prop :) Now all that's left to do is a few extra touch ups on the prop and add some velcro onto another part of my costume... ohh and then theres the routine!! I've choreographed it, but I actually haven't had a chance to run through it properly yet, because my shoulder's been a bit out of sorts for the last week (boooo). Tomorrow will be routine day and hopefully I'll be able to fit in some more practice on Wednesday before the final on Saturday.

I'm actually not feeling to nervous at the moment, usually about a week or two before a comp I'm as nervous as hell and panicking. I feel oddly calm and relaxed which can only be a good thing, right?

I don't have any pre comp ritua…

SHOES GLORIOUS SHOES!!!

Image
There are a lot of things I love about pole, and the shoes (for those of us who wear them) are right up the top (with the sparkly costumes of course!!)

I won't deny that I have a shoe obsession, my mother constantly tells me, why do you have so many shoes? YOU ONLY HAVE TWO FEET!
I remember the day I bought my first pair of pole shoes, a pair of 5 3/4 inch pleaser heels with sliver straps that went across the my toes and a thin sliver strap that wrapped around my ankle (and some sparkles on the straps of course). I also remember when they broke, such a sad day. I still have those shoes, mum kept my first ever pair of ballet shoes, my pole shoes are just as special to me.
Right now I have lost count of how many pairs I have, but this should give you some idea. I have about 8 or 9 pairs lined up on my window sill, a 30 Litre storage tub full, about 5 pairs sitting on top of that storage tub and six pairs in boxes sitting at the end of my bed. Did I mention that I like shoes?
A lot …
